about TAINA

I am an Afro-Latina with Caribbean roots that spent my childhood roaming the boonies of Okinawa, Japan.

The daughter of a devoted USAF CMSgt (R) that emigrated from the Dominican Republic and learned English at the age of 16 all to provide a good life for his family.

The daughter of a Puerto Rican mother from New York who wore metallic lipstick, had an infectious laugh and brightness in life that was inspiring, yet she silently and sometimes not so silently struggled with her mental health.

The sister of two older siblings that loved me as much as they could while battling their own growth and with an almost 10 year age gap between us.

I spent a lot of time reading and dreaming. I spent a lot of time alone.

I always knew human behavior intrigued me. I always knew I wanted to be helpful.

I always knew I was a social worker.

GRIEF FOCUSED. BRAINSPOTTING TRAINED. STORYTELLER. GROWTH COACH.

Over the past 20 years, I've had the honor of serving vulnerable people whose voices are often unheard as a Florida child welfare case manager, advocate for sex-trafficked survivors, and nonprofit leader. I’ve now received my Masters in Social Work from the University of South Florida and continue to bring healing to my community one therapy session at a time.

I am passionate about creating space for people to be themselves and share without judgment. So I’ll make space for  process the stress of life transitions, grief, relationship issues, feelings of anxiety or depression, and all the things!

Personally, I honor how valuable spirituality and faith can be when it comes to healing. If you lean on your spirituality and would like to incorporate that into our clinical sessions, I am very open to doing so. However, I understand many people are also impacted by faith based trauma experiences. I'd love to help you unpack that hurt! There is no judgment here, and I welcome all!

Finally, I long to see communities of color heal from racial trauma and break free from unhealthy traditions. I see you and recognize your intersecting perspectives and experiences as a Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color. Let’s process the pain to discover the healing and recovery our souls and bodies so desperately need.

CHRONIC ILLNESS FOCUS. BRAINSPOTTING TRAINED. PSYCHOANALYTIC. ACTION ORIENTED.

My interest in therapy began as a volunteer with a suicide crisis line in 2015 and since then I have had the privilege of working alongside homeless individuals, women & children fleeing domestic violence, people living with HIV, and patients and families involved in the hospital system. After completing my Bachelor of Social Work, I worked as a hospital social worker for two years and while completing my Master of Social Work at the University of South Florida. I have had the honour of providing therapy to a variety of clients through USF Health.

My goal is to create a safe space for people to empower themselves and heal from their traumas. I am a believer in storytelling and that our individual narratives help frame our identities. I am here to walk alongside you as you explore your personal narrative and unpack all the beauty and pain within it.

Creating a collaborative, safe relationship with you is my first priority. No matter what it is that you're going through, I’m here to work with you and help you grow as you face the challenges life is throwing at you.

Check out my Chronic Illness Support Group that is held virtually the first Tuesday of the Month - 6pm EST!
