about TAINA

I am an Afro-Latina with Caribbean roots that spent my childhood roaming the boonies of Okinawa, Japan.

The daughter of a devoted USAF CMSgt (R) that emigrated from the Dominican Republic and learned English at the age of 16 all to provide a good life for his family.

The daughter of a Puerto Rican mother from New York who wore metallic lipstick, had an infectious laugh and brightness in life that was inspiring, yet she silently and sometimes not so silently struggled with her mental health.

The sister of two older siblings that loved me as much as they could while battling their own growth and with an almost 10 year age gap between us.

I spent a lot of time reading and dreaming. I spent a lot of time alone.

I always knew human behavior intrigued me. I always knew I wanted to be helpful.

I always knew I was a social worker.

STRESS & BURNOUT. LIFE TRANSITIONS. INCLUSIVITY & LGBTQIA+. CREATIVE. ADVOCATE.

I am a proud USF Bull with both my Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees. During the past four years I’ve organized various events in the community for youth who are unhoused that have now turned into annual partnerships with multiple organizations - all while being a full time student.

First, I understand the challenges with 'juggling it all' and know the overwhelm of burnout and stress all too well. I believe that every person is capable of bouncing back and seeing life in a new energized light. Let me help you!

I’m a listener, an only child, an artist, and a first generation college graduate. I’ve consistently sought out education and human connection to enhance my community. I have a passion for research and advocacy of all kinds, especially in the LGBTQIA+ community. I’ve found so much light and hope working with individuals who have experienced trauma, PTSD, OCD, depression and anxiety.

My drive for advocacy work and breaking barriers along with my values of creating safe spaces and trusting relationships with clients has led me to find my calling in Clinical Social Work. I come from an empathetic and holistic approach, evaluating all of the areas that play a part in your life to help you troubleshoot realistic solutions and find peace. I have a love for art and storytelling which drives me to find evidence based and creative solutions to provide you with the best support possible.

I’m a strong believer that every person has the ability to take control of their narrative and live their best life, whatever that looks like for you! I look forward to working with you to uncover your passions and strengths. Let's utilize your inner power and courage to build your BEST!

ANXIETY. TRAUMA FOCUSED. VICTIM ADVOCATE. HOLISTIC. PSYCHOANALYTIC.

I hold a Bachelor’s in Sociology and am currently working towards my Master of Social Work degree, both from Louisiana State University - GEAUX Tigers!

My interest in clinical social work began as a victim advocate intern in Baton Rouge, LA. I was later hired for the role and served the Baton Rouge community for 3 years. This experience allowed me to work with victims, survivors, and families of crimes such as homicides, sexual assault, domestic violence, and other violent and non-violent offenses. My role was to guide survivors and their families through the criminal justice process from the date of the incident until a case resolution was made. Overall, this role allowed me to identify trauma as an area of interest, made me realize the need for Spanish-speaking resources, and led me to my calling of pursuing a more clinically-focused role that addresses these interests.

Being Puerto Rican and with Spanish being my first language, I understand the struggles of not being able to find care to address things like trauma and anxiety that caters to a family’s language and culture. I have a mission to close that gap for Latinx and Hispanic individuals when it comes to mental health. By breaking down barriers such as stigma, language, and lack of representation in the therapeutic community, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment that encourages healing and growth for all.

No matter what life looks like for you at the moment, I am here to collaborate with you and help you become the best version of yourself with sessions catered to your needs and passions. I am looking forward to the journey!
